Script
Formatting Guidelines
Screenplays must be properly bound
and written in standard screenplay format. If you are not familiar with
standard screenplay formatting, we recommend the following book as a guide:
The
Screenwriters Bible by David Trottier
Non-standard and shooting scripts
(those with numbered scenes, etc.) are not acceptable.
Your screenplay must be submited
in English, original, unpublished and unproduced at the time of submission.
Script formatting also includes:
-
Three-hole paper bound with 2 or 3 brads
(please do not use extra large brads or screws as they make the scripts
hard to handle). International applicants may use equivalent size paper
as a substitute.
-
White card stock cover (front and back)
to protect the scripts during handling by our staff and judges. Hint:
Do not use construction paper. White card stock is your heavier paper available
at most office supply stores or Kinko's.
-
No writing on the spine of the script.
-
Do not include extraneous camera directions.
These are better left to the director.
-
Judging of scripts will be anonymous.
Therefore, please include (not attach) a cover sheet with your name, address,
telephone number, email address (if available) and the title of your screenplay
with each script entered. Your name or any identifying personal information
must not appear on the synopsis, title page or anywhere in the script.
-
All pages must be numbered. Please check
for missing or duplicated pages.
-
A one-page synopsis must be bound with
each script submitted. Synopsis should be the first page inside the cover,
followed by the title page and then the first page of the script. Synopsis
should be standard margins, single or double spaced, and should not exceed
one page. Hint: The shorter and more concise, the better.
-
Scripts must be in 12-point courier
font and dark enough to be easily legible. Hint:
Do not provide scripts that have badly photocopied pages or in light print.
-
Total script length for scripts must
be between 80 – 130 pages (not including the synopsis and cover page).
-
No additional materials should be attached
to the submission such as illustrations, casting suggestions, letters or
resumes. No special packaging or gimmicks. We appreciate your creativity
but won’t have the time to enjoy it!
